This disclaimer applies to Design 101 and every module that follows it in the BREATHE.DESIGN.LOVE. course (the "Course"), provided by Alexander Greig Architect ("the Provider," "we," "us"), under the professional experience of Alex Greig, a registered architect in New Zealand with over 35 years in practice. By enrolling in, accessing, or using any part of the Course, you (the "Student," "you") confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the terms below.
The Course is provided for educational and conceptual design purposes only. It is intended to build your understanding of spatial design, pattern language, and the design process, and to help you develop a concept for your own project. It is not a substitute for professional design, engineering, or consenting services.
Alex Greig is a registered architect in New Zealand with over 35 years of professional experience, and that experience shapes everything taught in the Course. Enrolling in the Course, submitting assignments, or attending a 1-on-1 or small group session draws directly on that background, but it does not engage Alex Greig or Alexander Greig Architect as the architect of record for your specific project, and it does not create the kind of architect-client relationship formed under a direct commission. The Course is delivered as an educational program, not as a commissioned architectural service on your project.
Feedback on your submitted work is here to help you grow as a your design and sharpen your concept.
In New Zealand, all One to One Design Conversation(s) or Collective of Five sessions or Site visits constitute engaging Alex Greig, registered Architect, acting under Kinex Plus Ltd, which holds appropriate indemnity insurance for this jurisdiction.
Building codes, consent pathways, and compliance requirements vary by region and change over time. The Provider makes no representation that any concept, material, or approach discussed in the Course will satisfy the code, consent authority, or compliance pathway that applies to your specific site. Confirming this is your responsibility, in consultation with your local authority and your design team.
The Course does not provide cost estimating. Any cost per area figures used in Course calculators are entered by you, based on your own research for your local area, and are intended only as a comparison exercise. Before developing your concept further, seek budgeting advice from a qualified quantity surveyor or builder in your area. Construction costs vary by region and change frequently, so obtain advice specific to your site rather than relying on figures generated in the Course.
The Course includes simple guided breathing exercises: slow belly breathing, a brief breath hold, and a long exhale. This is a gentle, paced practice, not medical treatment, and is not delivered by a medical professional. As with any change in breathing pattern, some people may notice lightheadedness, dizziness, tingling, or other sensations. If anything feels uncomfortable, ease off and return to your normal breathing. If you have an ongoing health condition and are unsure whether the exercises are suitable for you, check with your doctor before taking part.
Some assignments ask you to visit, walk, and measure your own site or an existing building, including the use of laser measuring tools and other equipment. You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of others while carrying out these activities, including assessing site hazards, ground conditions, and the safe use of any tools you choose to use. You take part in these activities at your own risk.
The self-study modules and live tutor sessions are designed to give you a genuine foundation: a working pattern language, real space and volume goals matched to your estimated costs, and a pathway to develop concept plans. That is enough, for most students, to walk into a conversation with an architect or designer with real clarity. Outcomes vary by student and by project, and the Provider does not guarantee a specific result for any Student, particularly a Student who completes only the self-study modules without attending a 1-on-1 or small group session. Generally, the more direct time spent on your actual project, the further your concept can be developed, though this is not a guarantee of outcome.
Whatever level of clarity you reach, everything produced in the Course remains concept level design work. It is not construction documentation, structural engineering, or a council ready consent set. Before you or your builder acts on any concept developed in the Course, it must be documented, engineered, and signed off by the relevant licensed professionals in your region, and checked against your local building codes.
Course materials, including written content, workbooks, videos, and the Analytical Guru Specification Workbook, are the intellectual property of the Provider and are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use only. References made in the Course to the work of any external author are for educational discussion only, referenced by title and concept. The Provider does not reproduce copyrighted text from these or any other third party works within the Course. You may not copy, resell, republish, or redistribute Course materials without written permission.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Provider, Alex Greig, and Alexander Greig Architect exclude all liability for direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss or damage arising from or in connection with the Course. This includes, without limitation, loss arising from reliance on Course content, construction undertaken on the basis of concepts developed in the Course, or participation in breathwork or other physical activity referenced in the Course. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited, at the Provider's option, to resupply of the relevant Course module or a refund of the fee paid for that module. Nothing in this clause limits any right you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where those Acts apply and cannot be excluded.
You agree to indemnify the Provider against any claim, loss, or damage arising from construction work, design decisions, or other action taken by you, your contractor, or your design team on the basis of concepts developed during the Course, except to the extent that the claim, loss, or damage is caused by the Provider's fraud or wilful misconduct.
This disclaimer is governed by the laws of New Zealand. The parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand, without limiting any right you may have as a consumer under New Zealand law where you reside outside New Zealand.
